Opioids and New CDC Guidelines (Vice News)

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published the first federal guidelines on prescribing opioids (Oxycotin and Vicodin for example) . Opioid addiction is widespread in American society and the Federal government has stepped in to try and curb the rising number of individuals who become addicted by asking doctors to change the way they prescribe the medication in the first place. The guidelines ask that doctors only prescribe opioids in extreme situations (such as cancer treatment or end of life care) and use less addictive pain treatments for other (less severe) forms of pain.
