1.House approves bill to stop Planned Parenthood federal funds
The House of Representatives approved of a bill to cut federal funding for Planned Parenthood today in a 241-187 vote. However, President Obama has vowed to veto this bill and chances are unlikely that it will pass in the Senate. Republican outrage has been ensuing over videos that showed Planned Parenthood officials negotiating for fetal tissues from abortions. In the debate, Rep. Gus Bilirakis states,
“Taxpayers should not be forced to financially support organizations whose behavior is at best unethical and possibly illegal.”
2. Republicans’ last attempt to block Iran deal fails
Senate Republicans attempted a final effort to pass a bill that would require Iran to release American prisoners and recognize Israel before lifting their economic sanctions. The bill, which needed 60 votes to pass, fell short 53-45. The current Iran deal is now set to move forward.
3. GOP debate sets record audience
Wednesday night’s GOP debates set a record viewership of nearly 23 million people. This show marks the most viewed program ever on CNN.
4. Croatia closes off borders to migrants
Croatia closed off almost all of its border crossings with Serbia after more than 13,000 migrants have entered the country, attempting escape the war-torn Middle East. Migrants are still attempting to enter, seeking a new a new path into Western Europe after Hungary closed its borders.
