1. Benghazi hearing leaves Hillary Clinton unscathed
Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton faced an 11-hour interrogation regarding the events of the 2012 terrorist attacks in Benghazi, Libya which killed four Americans, including U.S. Ambassador Chris Stevens. Republicans continuously grilled Hillary with sharp questions. Clinton replied, “I really don’t care what you say about me. It doesn’t bother me a bit.”
2. Paul Ryan officially decides to run for House speaker
Rep. Paul Ryan announced Thursday that he was willing to run as the next House speaker to fill in the gap with Speaker John Boehner’s departure. Ryan wanted the Republican party to be united behind him instead of the recent disagreements and fractures within the party. In a letter to the Republicans, he stated,”I believe we are ready to move forward as a one, united team.”
3. Biden officially announces his status in the presidential campaign
Vice President Joe Biden announced on Wednesday that he will not be joining the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. He stated that there was not enough time to mount a winning campaign, amidst other factors such as the recent death of his son Beau. Although some liberal supporters were disappointed, Biden declared that he “will not be silent” and will continue to support Democratic causes.
4. Jim Webb drops out of 2016 presidential race
Former Virginia Senator Jim Webb announced Tuesday that he was leaving the race for the 2016 Democratic presidential nomination. However, he said he was open to an independent presidential bid if he receives enough financial support.
