This week in news: Pope Francis addresses terrorism in his Christmas speech, and at least 14 died in deadly southern storms.

1. Pope Francis addresses terrorism in his Christmas speech

Pope Francis emphasizes the need for unity against Islamic terrorism in his annual “Urbi et Orbi” Christmas address.  He condemned recent terrorist attacks that happened in Paris, America, and the downing of the Russian plane. “Only God’s mercy can free humanity from the many forms of evil, at times monstrous evil, which selfishness spawns in our midst,” the Pope stated, alluding to the need to acknowledge help from a Higher Power.

2. At least 14 died in deadly southern storms

Heavy rains flooded Alabama while tornadoes ravaged Mississippi, Tennessee, and Arkansas, killing at least 14 people. Search crews and other residents have helped clean up the mess. Chris Shupiery from Tennessee stated “this was just the right thing to do, come help a family in need.”
