1. Plans to halt fighting in Syria set in place
After a series of talks in Munich, Germany, World Powers agree on Thursday on a “cessation of hostilities” beginning next week. The plan would include delivering humanitarian aid to Syria on Saturday. The plan, however, does not include terrorist groups which Syria will be under siege.
2. Flint’s water system in crisis
Michigan officials could face manslaughter charges for the huge negligence over Flint’s water supply. Flint’s water is reported to have alarming amounts of lead in it due to the corroding pipes. The city of Flint was previously on Detroit’s water system, until they switched to their own system in 2014. Many residents have complained of the discolored, foul-smelling water carrying specs of metal from the pipe corrosion. Some people have also contracted rashes . Brain disorders can also occur due to lead poisoning, which young children are most susceptible to.
3. Christie and Fiorina drop out
Chris Christie and Carly Fiorina join the pack of defeated GOP nominees, dropping out of the race on Wednesday after the New Hampshire primaries took place. Christie finished sixth place with 7.4% of the vote, and Fiorina came after him with just 4% of the vote.
4. Trump and Sanders win the New Hampshire primaries at soaring rates
Presidential nominees Donald Trump from the GOP camp and Bernie Sanders from the democratic side won over New Hampshire by wide margins of 20% this past Tuesday. Trump received 35.3% of the vote, while John Kasich, coming 2nd in place, only got 15.8%. Bernie garnered a whooping 60.4%, while Hillary only won 38% of the vote.
