Terrorists attack Brussels; Serbian leader guilty of genocide; Obama goes to Cuba; Trump and Clinton hold their leads.
Terror in Brussels:
On Tuesday, March 22 terrorists, later identified as members of ISIS, killed at least 31 and injured 300 in two bombings at Zaventem International Airport and the Maelbeek metro station. Two Belgian brothers later identified as Khalid and Brahim el-Bakraoui as well as two other men was believed to be responsible. Belgian authorities have captured the brothers.
Serbian Leader Guilty of Genocide:
Radovan Karadzic was found responsible for genocide by the United Nations war crimes tribunal and was sentenced to 40 years in prison. Karadzic was the Serbian leader in Bosnia during the civil war in the 1990’s. He was allegedly behind the siege of Sarajevo and the massacre in Srebrenica, leaving a combined total of 19,000 dead between those two acts alone.
President Obama visits Cuba:
President Obama made his first visit (and the first visit in 88 years of an American President) to Cuba on Sunday. In an attempt to bridge the divide between the United States and Cuba and open up trade relations (as well as getting the Cuban vaccine for lung cancer), President Obama met with President Raul Castro as well as local dissidents. Cuba’s isolation stems from the U.S fear, during the Cold War, of communist regimes and the spread of communism to the States, President Obama has refused to let the Cold War dictate politics today.
The Election:
Primaries were held in three states on Tuesday: Idaho, Arizona and Utah. Here are the results:
- Republicans: Donald Trump won Arizona while Ted Cruz won Utah
- Democrats: Hillary Clinton won Arizona while Bernie Sanders took Idaho and Utah.
Both Trump and Clinton are still in the lead of overall delegates.
